At Converge, we know everyone has a calling, following the crowd costs too much, and students really do make a difference on missional internships.
Every YWAM Converge participant will engage these values through formal and informal Bible Studies, learning activities, and discussion, including the following topics from 2 Peter 1:
How 2 Peter 1:4-8 has helped shape YWAM Converge:
- Faith/Life in Christ – We listen closely to God and obey fully all he says to do. We are resourceful, which means we quickly turn to God and faithfully search for ways to accomplish our assignments.
- Virtue/Character of God – Our ministry flows out of being vulnerable, humble, and holy in intimate friendship with God. We choose what reflects God’s character.
- Knowledge/Worldview – We grow in the knowledge of God’s works and his ways. We are teachable learners.
- Self-Control/Integrity – Our words match our actions. We are credible. We have a healthy confidence in our abilities or lack thereof and we work to develop the skills we need. We choose to act according to what is right. We commit to work together on shared goals.
- Perseverance/Patience – We choose the long obedience in the same direction. We have grit. We sail through difficulties because we embrace the fire that refines us.
- Godliness/Devotion to God – We stand before the audience of One and we will not turn back. We are flexible, able to adapt even through intense times of change.
- Brotherly-Kindness/Love of Neighbor. We share God’s grace with the righteous and the unrighteous alike. We choose right relationships over personal or religious differences. We are being equipped as ambassadors of reconciliation.
- Love/Aroma of Christ – We seek the enduring testimony of God’s love for the glory of God.
Our ministry is not only to bring reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ. We must also bring reconciliation to broken relationships with others, including, but not limited to, our families and our neighbors. Tom Marshall wrote about the ingredients to healthy relationships: Love, which lasts longest; Trust, which is most fragile; Respect, which is most often neglected; and Understanding, which takes the most time. This ministry of reconciliation applies to every field of endeavor, every vocation, such as philosophy and theology (God); psychology (self); education and political science (others); environmental studies (creation).
We believe in demonstrating practical and sacrificial service to the poor and needy as a missions strategy. We believe practical service to others places us in a posture to disengage from the spirit of individualism and grapple with the meaning of Koinonia, “the communal reality of holy living, mutual support, and sacrificial service.” Deloitte’s 4th Global Millennial survey shows that 75% of Millennials believe businesses are … not focused enough on helping to improve society. While the social focus is strong, only 37% say their education gave them the skills they need to make a difference. Millennials and technology provide an unprecedented opportunity for mobilization of socially conscious students to learn a biblical worldview while serving critical areas of need globally. However, this generation needs to learn a healthy use of technology.
We believe hospitality is a gift of the Spirit; it literally means “friendship with the stranger.” In addition to being “full of the Holy Spirit and of faith,” the first appointed Deacons were local missionaries. We believe it is important to open our homes and our tables to share with strangers, especially those from different cultures. We believe these small acts of hospitality will counteract globalization’s isolating effect.
We believe holiness is intimacy with God. We choose to surrender our rights and embrace our responsibilities, in order that we might know God more intimately.
We connect with external partners in the context of our mission. We work on remote projects with partners.
We choose to love our neighbors with no pre-conditions because we believe God put the sun in the sky to bless everyone.
